Gaayathri Biopolytech Farms has established India’s first SPF bio-secured sandworm culture facility with the vision of transforming aquaculture through scientific innovation, controlled biological systems, and sustainable cultivation practices.

Developed across more than 10 acres of advanced infrastructure, the facility was designed to address one of the aquaculture industry’s most critical challenges — the dependence on wild-sourced worms that often carry biological risks and inconsistent nutritional quality.

The project specializes in the cultivation of Perinereis nuntia, a highly nutritious sandworm species widely used for shrimp broodstock maturation and hatchery applications. Unlike traditional collection methods, the worms at the facility are cultivated under fully controlled captive environments designed to maintain hygiene, consistency, and biological safety.

The infrastructure includes advanced seawater intake systems, sandbed filtration units, mechanical filtration chambers, UV treatment systems, reservoir facilities, nursery units, grow-out chambers, broodstock tanks, spawning systems, microbiology laboratories, and specialized packaging infrastructure.

Every stage of the process is carefully monitored to maintain SPF bio-secured standards. Water undergoes multiple filtration and UV treatment cycles before entering operational systems. Controlled breeding environments support healthy worm development, while structured nursery and grow-out systems maintain stable environmental conditions throughout cultivation.

The facility also follows strict quality-control and microbiological monitoring procedures designed to reduce biological risks and support disease-safe aquaculture practices. Specialized harvesting, cleaning, and packaging systems further ensure consistency and product quality across live, frozen, IQF, moist, and dry formats.
